When the a_mount of such compensation is not paid or deposited on or before taking possession of the land the
Land Officer shall pay the amount awarded with interest thereon at the rate of 4 per cent per annum from the time or so taking possession until it has been so paid or deposited.

"Land Officer" means the officer in charge of the Land Office and includes any officer specially appointed by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan to perform the functions of a Land Officer under this Act;
