Whenever any person is arrested and detained in custody by an officer of the Bureau or a police officer for an offence against this Act and it appears that the investigation cannot be completed within a period of 48
hours from the time that the person is arrested —
an officer of the Bureau or a police officer may produce such person before a magistrate; and
the magistrate may, whether he has or has no jurisdiction to try the case, authorise the detention of such person in such custody as such magistrate thinks fit for a term not exceeding 15 days in the whole.
