s 356Persons not to be tried for offences already disposed of by civil court

(1)

Where a person has been tried for an offence by a competent civil court or has had an offence committed by him taken into consideration by a competent civil court in sentencing him, a Syariah Court shall be disbarred from trying him subsequently for an offence substantially the same as that offence; but nothing aforesaid shall be construed as restricting the jurisdiction of any Syariah Court to try a person for an offence.

For the purposes of this Chapter, "civil court" means a court of ordinary criminal jurisdiction in Brunei Darussalam.
