Where an Act includes an example or illustration of the operation of a provision —

“act”, used with reference to an offence or civil wrong, includes a series of acts, and words which refer to acts done extend to omissions;
the example or illustration shall not be taken to be exhaustive; and
if the example or illustration is inconsistent with the provision, the provision prevails.
